The first challenge was a Bike ride from London to Paris in 2010, where nearly 100 St James’s Place riders took part in cycling 230 miles across the UK and France over a 3 day period and raised approximately £250,000 including matching.
The aim was help to improve the lives of a large number of young people taking part in the Urban Stars Programme and through other projects supported by the St. James's Place Foundation.
The Urban Stars Programme is an inner city multi-sports backed by Laureus Sport for Good Foundation and delivered by the Active Communities Network which is committed to the use of sports, arts and cultural activities to improve youth citizenship, social inclusion and community cohesion.
Riders were joined on part of the 3 day challenge by ex-England cricket captain Michael Vaughan and Miguel Indurain, five time winner of the Tour de France, both ambassadors for the foundation.
Sam completed the ride and this lead to a greater enjoyment of cycling so she decided to opt in for another challenge.
